In the recent decades, the hip-hop music became a phenomenon.
It will not be an exaggeration to say that the hip-hop culture has conquered the entire world. It sets out the directions for how to dress, what cars to drive, how to party and even the way teenagers talk, including the introduction of new, popular expressions. But, at first, the hip-hop was in the role of Cinderella in America's poor neighbourhoods...

2017 was a very successful year for the hip-hop. 2018 seems to be even more sensational! With hip-hop hits breaking all the charts, performed by some of the most famous names in the genre - artists such as Drake, Eminem, Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar and others. Personally, I look forward to the rest of the music show, called The 2018!

We have a very cool "Champion", to start with:

The mood that this hip-hop hit creates is only one: FULL THROTTLE!

The newest, the mega hip-hop diva, the Queen of the reality show “ Love and Hip-Hop: New York”, only a year and a half after breaking all the charts with her debut single "Bodak Yellow" and reaching No. 1 in the US Billboard Hot 100 Rankings, now repeats the success. Well, with just a little help from 21 Savage.

2. Drake - God's Plan

Drake is a machine! Last year, he was a convincing leader in the chart for the most popular performer in the US, based on their number of streams - 3.73 billion! Seems he will never stop producing an album after an album and a hit after a hit every year. One of the dominant forces in the genre right now, without any doubt!

Just a short quote from the lyrics of the song:
"Bitch, it`s King Kong,
Yes, I`m King Kong,
This is King Kong?
Yes, Miss King Kong ..."
Why do we have the impression that she wants to smash a very popular female colleague of her, like King Kong?

31. Yo Gotti - Juice

32. Eminem - Walk On Water

33. Eminem - River ft. Ed Sheeran

The hardcore fans of Eminem will definitely be pleased with this one. A song in the typical for the infamous white rapper style. The dramatic story told excitingly by the inimitable rapping of Eminem and the velvet voice of Ed Sheeran. The result: a gorgeous contrast. A formula that the artist used together with Dido years ago in “Stan”. This is a confession for our sins and about how at one point they come back to us and flood us like rain, like a river.

The Year of the Mumble Rap?

When it comes to hip-hip, everyone has their own opinion and passion for the future of the genre. It is a fact, however, that Mumble rap ‘kidnapped’ the industry last year with artists like Lil Uzi Vert, Lil 'Yachty, Young Thug, Desiigner and others, and this is set to become one of the most serious trends in the genre in 2018. This style features artists rapping their lyrics continuously and in an inconsistent manner. The Mumble rap comes from the South, but it quickly took over some major music centres like Chicago and New York.
Some fans and experts conclude that the Mumble rap may "kill" the traditional rapping. Hardly possible. It is just the next stage of the genre, just like the Gangsta Rap.

45. DJ Khaled ft. JAY Z, Future & Beyoncé - Top Off

71. Cardi B - Bodak Yellow
This is the absolutely exclusive debut single of Cardi B, with which she has reached the top spot in the US Billboard Hot 100, demolishing Taylor Swift.

Cardi B and the allegations that she is "imitator"

After the stunning success of Bodak Yellow, some fans and experts accused her of mimicking the style of rapper Kodak Black. The singer admitted that for her, Black's "No Flockin", Black himself being a former exotic dancer, was a great inspiration, and she used his video as a muse. That is why she does not fail to give due respect to her colleague in any betrothal case. Again, in his honour, she included his name in the tracking list when she released the remix of her hit in September 2017.
As we know, Niki Minaj also directly accused her of mimicking, especially in the song "No Limit". The new mega star, who has never ran away of a battle, replied in an impeccable fashion that she could imitate absolutely every hip-hop performer, and she would do it whenever and in any way she likes it.
The accusations of "imitation" do not take away even a bit of the glory that Kardi has and she continues to release a hit after a hit. Go on, girl!

72. Rudy Mancuso & Maia Mitchell - Magic

73. Kendrick Lamar - LOYALTY. ft. Rihanna
Only a few days after rocking the "MTV Video Music Award - 2017" with the mega hit “Humble”, which has won seven awards, Mr. Lamar takes us with this romanticized piece. Add irresistible Rihanna and the success is pre-announced.

80. Migos - Slippery feat. Gucci Mane

It is fair to finish with a trio who recorded the most impressive presence in this ranking.
The song clip is shot on the beaches of Miami, using Quavo’s birthday shots. The large number of beautiful girls and beautiful coastal views will caress your eye and remind you that the summer and the sea are very close already!

A bit of History

The hip-hop style was formed in the 70s of the last century in the communities of young, native African-Americans and the children of the immigrants from the Caribbean.

In the beginning, the genre was strongly influenced by disco and DJ mixing. So under the influence of the hip-hop, the DJ-tracks started to feature the so called beats. The block parties were born, and some hip-hop songs made a breakthrough to the charts of the larger radio stations.
The hip-hop music because the voice of the marginalized groups of young people from poorer neighbourhoods such as the South Bronx in New York. That's why the lyrics in the early rap songs are related to the social needs of the people in these neighbourhoods. The younger generation started to use the hip-hop in their struggle and battle for more civil rights. This turned out to be their way to be heard.

The big breakthrough

The big hip-hop boom took place in the late 80s and early 90s. Together with the incredible success of MTV, this style conquered the world. The hip-hop songs steadily reached the top spots of different music charts. The super-stars of this genre were born. Much of them were followers of the hip-hop sub-genre called "Gangsta Rap". The brightest representatives of this style from the 80's and 90's are Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, Ice-T, Notorious Big, Ice Cube, Puff Didi, Eminem and many others. These turned into the first millionaires in the neighbourhood.

Rap wars

Much of the rap performers coming from the American ghettos are former members of street bands. In their lyrics, they promote their hazardous lifestyle. They are singing about stacks of money, shiny cars, women ... but there is also a lot of violence, drugs, police brutality, and so on. At one point, the so called rap wars were transferred from lyrics and the media into real life. This led to the premature violent death of some of the most prominent rappers that have affected generations of fans, such as Tupac and Notorius Big. Fortunately, this dangerous period of the genre's history is already a thing of the past.

Among the most famous hip hop artists today, we can mention:
- Drake
- Future
- Kendrick Lamar
- Ed Sheeran
- Migos
- The Weekend
- Bruno Mars
- Kodak Black
- Rihanna
- Beyoncé
- Little Uzi Vert and others.
Currently, the hip-hop is responsible for 25 percent of the total US music consumption and production, while rock pretends to be 23 percent. This comes to show that the hip-hop genre is still the "biggest dog" in the neighbourhood!

Profits and who listens to hip-hop?

This is a business with over $10 billion profits per year. This cannot be any other way, as the main music users are the teenagers. The biggest fans of the hip-hop music are aged between 16 and 24 - 44%. The rest are between 25 and 36 years of age.

The wealthiest hip-hop artists

According to Forbes, the ranking of hip-hop performers with the fattest profits for 2017 is led by some familiar, old dogs in the genre. First of all, with an impressive $130 million, Mr. Sean Combs ... or the artist known by the nickname "P Diddy" (and still "Didi" and Puff Daddy).
Second, with $94 million, Drake (he is in 2nd place and in our chart with his song “God's Plan” - do not miss this great hip-hop release).
The trio is filled by Jay-Z with the "modest" $42 million.
The first girl in this prestigious list is Nicky Minaj - 16th place, with $16 million.
