Andrew Hozier-Byrne was born on 17 March 1990, known professionally by the mononym Hozier as an Irish musician, singer, and songwriter.
In 2013 Hozier released his debut, the hit single "Take Me to Church". His second song -From Eden, came up in 2014. His debut album became famous first in Ireland and then in the other countries.
As a son of a local blues musician, Hozier was raised with blues. At the age of 15, he took part in his first band. And the style of the band is blues of course. Hozier had started studying music at Trinity College, Dublin, where he took part at the Trinity Orchestra but dropped out during the first year of study. Then he started playing demos for Universal Music.
During 2009-2012 Hozier was singing in Anuna – an Irish choral ensemble, which traveled around the world. In 2013 came up the song “Take Me to Church” and Hozier’s talent had been seen. The video was about gay discrimination in Russia and had a huge resonance in the social media. That was very good for Hozier because he won national viewability. Hozier said that he had been writing the text of the song very long time. More than a year was needed for “Take Me to Church” even though at the beginning he hadn’t heard the music inside his head.
“Take Me to Church” is much more than a musical masterpiece. It’s an opinion, a way of thinking, said the author. With this song, Hozier said that everyone has a right to love freely. If the fact that two people are kissing is making you feel disgusted more than the violence which is around us, then you have to think about your moral, said Hozier in interview.
His second hit – “From Eden” came up in 2014 was nominated as the best 10 hits in more than 11 countries in the world.
In 2015 Hozier won the price “Artist of the year” by VH1. In 2016 the video of the song “Cherry wine” showed up the problem of the domestic violence. Also, a new song came up – “Better love”, which is the soundtrack of the movie “The Legend of Tarzan”.
